HIGH-QUALITY CARE FOR SMOOTH JOINTS
"If you don't use it, you lose it," as the saying goes. And it's true: If you move too little or constantly move incorrectly, you damage your bones and joints. Regular exercise that challenges the joints but doesn't place one-sided strain or overload them for long periods of time promotes the production of synovial fluid, the so-called synovia. This forms a protective lubricating film between the harder parts of your joints and prevents the bones from rubbing against each other. The synovial fluid also supplies the cartilage with oxygen and nutrients. This is particularly important because healthy cartilage also acts as a shock absorber for the joints. If it degenerates, inflammation, chronic pain, and restricted mobility occur where bones collide. This also affects your muscles, as protective postures can cause the affected muscles to shorten over time.
The more you move, the harder it is for age to take its toll on you. A stimulated metabolism maintains the healthy function of the entire joint region. Special nutrients also support the care of your joints.
To do something good for your joints, Nobilin Gelenk Aktiv® Gel combines the active ingredients of the New Zealand green-lipped mussel with extract from African devil's claw (Harpagophytum Procumbens) and menthol.
CARE FOR STRESSED JOINTS
Joint care plays a particularly important role after a certain age. When you're younger, your body forgives a lot. Over time, however, a lack of exercise or one-sided exercise can lead to joint pain and ultimately osteoarthritis. When the cartilage between the joints wears down, the bones rub against each other. The result is inflammation and painful restrictions in mobility. If you want your joints to function smoothly, in addition to plenty of exercise, it's helpful to provide them with "joint nutrition." These are substances from which synovial fluid and cartilage are formed. Nobilin Gelenk Aktiv® Gel offers a whole range of such nutrients by combining the most effective ingredients from green-lipped mussel and the medicinal plant "devil's claw" with cooling menthol and panthenol (for skin care).
CHONDROITIN, GLUCOSAMINE AND OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS – THE POWER TRIO FROM GREEN-NIPPED MUSSELS
Green-lipped mussels contain three active ingredients that are suitable for joint care. Chondroitin (short for chondroitin sulfate) is chemically an amino sugar. Chondroitin forms part of the extracellular matrix and, along with collagen, is one of the main components of human cartilage tissue. It gives cartilage its resistance to compression. This macromolecule is formed by chondroblasts, the cells that produce cartilage. The loss of chondroitin in the joint cartilage is one of the most common causes of osteoarthritis. Therefore, the vital substance chondroitin sulfate plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of joint wear. Studies suggest that the beneficial effect of chondroitin sulfate is further enhanced when combined with glucosamine and omega-3 fatty acids. This is why Nobilin Gelenk Aktiv® Gel also contains these two active ingredients.
Glucosamine is also an amino sugar found in the human body. As a component of connective tissue, cartilage, and synovial fluid, it plays a key role in the elasticity and regenerative capacity of articular cartilage. The body produces glucosamine by combining fructose-6-phosphate with the amino acid glutamine. With advancing age—but also due to stress or excess weight—glucosamine production can decrease, promoting wear and tear of the articular cartilage and joint pain. Although cartilage lacks blood flow, it forms a living, regularly renewing tissue. Building materials reach the cartilage via the synovial fluid, which is distributed particularly well through movement.
Green-lipped mussel – combined power for your joints
The coastal region of New Zealand boasts a medicinal treasure in the form of the green-lipped mussel (Latin: Perna canaliculus). This marine animal, also known as the green-lipped mussel and belonging to the mussel family, contains active ingredients that have preventative and healing effects on joint wear and tear: Antioxidants strengthen the immune system and inhibit inflammatory processes in the joints. The amino sugars glucosamine and chondroitin, which are key to the formation and maintenance of cartilage, play an important role in joint mobility and resilience and stimulate the body to produce new cartilage and synovial fluid. Furthermore, the green-lipped mussel contains twelve different omega-3 fatty acids, which have a particularly anti-inflammatory effect on the entire organism.
The green-lipped mussel has played a role in traditional Maori medicine for thousands of years due to its unique combination of active ingredients. Today, the green-lipped mussel is cultivated both as a delicacy and as a basis for pharmaceutical products. New Zealand harvests 60,000 tons of New Zealand green-lipped mussels annually. Approximately ten percent of this is used for pharmaceutical purposes and as a dietary supplement. The shellfish are freeze-dried and ground into a powder, which is used in capsules, tablets, or gels.
In addition to having healing powers for osteoarthritis and other joint problems, the ingredients of the green-lipped mussel are also said to have positive effects on asthma.
Green-lipped mussel in a preparation from Medicom
To benefit your joints, Nobilin Gelenk Aktiv® Gel combines powder from New Zealand green-lipped mussel with extract from African devil's claw and cooling menthol. The green-lipped mussel provides your joints with a unique combination of active ingredients, including glucosamine, chondroitin, and omega-3 fatty acids, for prevention and regeneration. The storage roots of devil's claw contain the bitter substances harpagoside, harpagide, and procumbide. These have anti-inflammatory and decongestant effects. The gel is rounded off with provitamin panthenol, which allows you to regenerate and pamper your skin in a moisturizing way.
Devil's claw – the medicinal plant against joint pain
In addition, Nobilin Gelenk Aktiv® Gel contains extract from African devil's claw, which is also becoming increasingly popular in Europe. The ingredients of this herbaceous plant, also known as burdock, include iridoid glycosides such as harpagoside, harpagide, and procumbide, as well as flavonoids and unsaturated fatty acids. These active ingredients serve as a supportive therapy for osteoarthritis and other mobility restrictions. Clinical studies have demonstrated significant benefits in the treatment of pain caused by musculoskeletal disorders. Furthermore, the numerous bitter compounds in devil's claw stimulate the appetite and digestion. Therefore, the medicinal plant is also used to treat digestive problems. However, the ingredients of devil's claw do not have an immediate effect. The longer onset of the medicinal effect requires a little patience. It is also important that the dosage of harpagoside in the devil's claw extract is not too low.
THE HEALING EFFECT: BITTER SUBSTANCES AGAINST OSTEOARTHRITIS AND INDIGESTION
Devil's claw is one of the bitterest medicinal plants known. Its bitterness is due to the iridoid glycosides (harpagoside, harpagide, and procumbide) it contains, which are also its most important pharmacological components. These are the ingredients that give devil's claw its anti-inflammatory and mild pain-relieving properties. By inhibiting a specific enzyme, they reduce the production of pro-inflammatory substances – so-called prostaglandins – in the affected joint. Furthermore, devil's claw can contribute to long-term joint pain relief. Therefore, devil's claw is now primarily used for the (supportive) treatment of degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatism. Studies also show that devil's claw root extract improves joint mobility.
AS GOOD AS SYNTHETIC RHEUMATIC MEDICINES – WITH BETTER TOLERANCE
For mild to moderate rheumatic complaints, the effect of devil's claw extract is equivalent to that of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) – but with the advantage of being better tolerated. NSAIDs often have gastrointestinal side effects that can lead to ulcers, bleeding, and in rare cases, even death. Furthermore, it has been proven that under the influence of devil's claw, it is possible to reduce the dosage of synthetic anti-rheumatic drugs. Even animals such as horses and dogs suffering from chronic osteoarthritis are now being treated with devil's claw. Incidentally, devil's claw – thanks to its bitter compounds – also has positive effects on digestion: It promotes gastric juice and bile production and is therefore also used for loss of appetite and digestive problems.
EFFECT SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN
Scientists from Itzehoe investigated the pain-relieving effects of devil's claw preparations, their tolerability, and whether they could serve as an alternative to synthetic painkillers. A total of 675 patients suffering from osteoarthritis, degenerative diseases of the vertebrae and intervertebral discs, and fibromyalgia took 480 milligrams of devil's claw extract twice daily for eight weeks. The result: Pain during movement, functional limitations, pain at rest, and muscle tension all decreased by at least 50 percent. Furthermore, 60 percent of the patients who had previously taken a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) were able to discontinue it during the course of the study. Of the 50 patients who received cortisone beforehand, more than half were able to stop taking the drug afterward. Over 90 percent of the patients rated the tolerability of the devil's claw extract as "very good" or "good." WORTH KNOWING: Devil's claw can be taken for several months and is therefore suitable for the treatment of chronic joint inflammation. The effects of devil's claw root begin approximately three weeks after starting to take it. Caution: Pregnant and breastfeeding women should only take devil's claw in consultation with their doctor.

Well-lubricated joints
Unfortunately, we usually only realize how important smoothly functioning joints are when problems arise. Suddenly, your motor skills become less fluid, and you adopt protective postures to avoid pain during certain movements, thereby only exacerbating the problem. Adequate exercise is important for stimulating your metabolism and preventing the adverse effects of protective postures.
Why do joint problems occur so often?
Over the years, your body's ability to supply the joint cartilage with sufficient nutrients diminishes. Overuse, excess weight, lack of exercise, and an unbalanced diet can also play a role. Poorly supplied cartilage "dries out," becomes cracked, and eventually regresses. This reduces the shock absorber between the bones. They rub against each other, the joint becomes inflamed, and ultimately loses mobility. This also affects your muscles, as protective postures can cause the affected muscle to shorten over time. The synovial fluid (synovia) is crucial for healthy cartilage. It not only acts as a protective lubricating film but also supplies your cartilage with nutrients and transports waste products from the highly complex joint system.
You ask – we answer
What exactly are green-lipped mussels?
TheGreen-lipped or green-shell mussel(Perna canaliculus) is a species of mussel in the mussel family and is found primarily in the waters around New Zealand. The Maoris, who have inhabited the island since the 13th century, have long included this mussel in their diet. It has been observed that the Maoris suffer from far fewer joint problems than people in other regions. The reason: Green-lipped mussels are high in vitamins, minerals, omega-3 fatty acids, and sugar-like substances (glycosaminoglycans). The great thing about them: The green-lipped mussel provides you with valuable nutrients that are needed as building blocks for skin, connective tissue, and cartilage. The green-lipped mussel grows in the pristine fjord waters of New Zealand, where it is cultivated and harvested in mussel farms. After gentle drying, the mussels are processed into powder. This process largely preserves the valuable components of the green-lipped mussel.
What exactly is devil's claw?
This herbaceous plant, also known as trample, grows in the desert regions of Africa, including Namibia. The African devil's claw (Harpagophytum procumbens) hides its valuable active ingredients about 1.5 meters underground, in its storage roots. These roots contain the sought-after active ingredients harpagoside, harpagide, and procumbide. Devil's claw is highly valued as a home remedy in its African country of origin, as it is said to have a positive effect on the joints, among other things.
What exactly is provitamin B5?
Provitamin B5, also known as panthenol, is used both medicinally and cosmetically for its nourishing properties and positive effects on the skin. For example, panthenol supports the regeneration of skin cells. Furthermore, provitamin B5 moisturizes the skin, keeping it soft and supple.
What makes Nobilin Gelenk Aktiv® Gel so special?
To benefit your joints, Nobilin Joint Active Gel combines New Zealand green-lipped mussel with African devil's claw, provitamin B5, and menthol. Menthol and panthenol round out this unique gel. Menthol is extracted from the essential oil of the peppermint plant. It smells minty and fresh when applied, pleasantly cooling and soothing the affected areas. Provitamin B5 (panthenol) nourishes your skin, moisturizing it and making it soft and supple. Panthenol also supports the regeneration of skin cells. Do your joints a favor and pamper them by rubbing in a very special balm: Nobilin's joint care.
