The small, thorny Shatavari bush is native to India and the Himalayas. It belongs to the asparagus family and is also known as wild asparagus (Asparagus racemosus). In naturopathy, it is mainly the Shatavari root that is used. According to Ayurveda, the plant's ingredients are said to strengthen the Kapha dosha and harmonize the heating properties of Vata and Pitta. It is therefore not surprising that Shatavari is used particularly during the various female cycles and for persistent discomfort.
