Dietary supplements, medication... When should I take what? Do you also sometimes lose track of when it’s best to take what? To ensure your vitamins and other supplements work optimally in your body, we have put together some useful tips for you here. We start with an intake schedule that you can easily use, as well as intake tips for dietary supplements and medication. There are a few things to keep in mind here as well.
Intake tips for dietary supplements: Morning, evening, intake schedule & more
- Coffee, black/green tea, or dairy products should not be taken together with iron, as this can reduce absorption
- Take iron together with vitamin C. This improves the absorption of the trace element
- Vitamin D and K are best taken together. Both vitamins work closely together in the body
- Bitter substances, fiber, and probiotics are best taken on an empty stomach or before meals
- Take stimulating preparations in the morning, e.g., Vitamin B complex
- Take balancing preparations in the evening, e.g., Magnesium
- If you are unsure about tolerance, gradually work your way up to the recommended daily dosage
- Always follow the manufacturer's intake recommendations
- An intake schedule (see download above) helps you keep better track when taking dietary supplements
Medication: The underestimated nutrient robbers
Did you know that medications can "rob" nutrients? We give you three examples here with zinc, melatonin, and coenzyme Q10. Many are not aware that there can be interactions between medications and vital substances. It is best to always consult your doctor. The well-known American author and pharmacist Suzy Cohen has dedicated herself extensively to this topic. In her book "Drug Muggers: Which Medications Are Depleting Your Body's Nutrients and How to Correct Them" (Kopp Verlag, 2016), Cohen provides many good examples of what to keep in mind when taking medication.
